Montana School Horticulture Study Documents RADIX in Use
A 2024 open-access paper describes how Montana State University students installed and operated RADIX systems in a rural school growing project.
According to a research note published in Natural Sciences Education on July 3, 2024, Montana State University horticulture students helped establish indoor growing facilities at Winifred School in rural Montana during 2022. The paper identifies eight SANANBIO RADIX vertical hydroponic modules at the school and shows an additional RADIX system used by students at the university’s Plant Growth Center.
The account is unusually practical. Students found some racks assembled incorrectly, pumps delivering excessive flow and highly alkaline water. They adjusted irrigation, introduced water treatment and worked through multiple visits to make the systems usable for lettuce cultivation. By the third visit, the authors reported mature lettuces in the operating vertical modules and participation by school pupils in harvesting.
The study also describes how harvested produce entered school lunches and how the facilities continued to support education. Its estimate of roughly 200 lettuce heads per week refers to potential full-capacity output, not a consistently measured commercial yield. The paper provides a documented example of RADIX in a real educational installation while also showing the maintenance and operational planning required for reliable hydroponic cultivation.
