SANANBIO Reports a 725 m² Plant Factory at the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center
SANANBIO reported that a 725 m² artificial-light vegetable growing facility began operating at the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center in March 2021.
In a company report dated January 5, 2022, SANANBIO described a plant factory built at the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center in an arid region of northwestern China. The historical account says the project began in late 2020 and that a 725 m² artificial-light vegetable production facility entered operation in March 2021.
The reported crop range included lettuce, Chinese cabbage, ice plant, tomatoes, sweet peppers and cucumbers. SANANBIO described controlled temperature, humidity, lighting, carbon dioxide and nutrient management as key elements of the facility, developed for a location facing harsh winters and limited conventional growing opportunities.
The same report introduced the company's modular RADIX hydroponic system and ARK mobile farm as solutions for different challenging growing environments. It also mentioned other high-altitude and remote-area ARK applications, but those were separate examples rather than installations at Jiuquan.
This is an historical account issued by the equipment supplier, not independent verification of current production, astronaut food deliveries or quantified commercial performance. The case illustrates the applications that controlled-environment farming was being considered for in 2021.
