SANANBIO Lighting Used in a 2025 Far-Red Lettuce Study

A peer-reviewed study using SANANBIO lighting and growing modules tested intermittent far-red illumination in lettuce production.

According to a paper published in the journal Plants on January 6, 2025, researchers used LED lighting fixtures and growing modules supplied by SANANBIO in an enclosed laboratory experiment with green-leaf lettuce. The authors compared continuous far-red supplementation with intermittent schedules while controlling other aspects of daily light exposure.

Under one 30-minute intermittent treatment, the researchers measured 11.7% greater fresh yield at day 21 than under their constant far-red comparison. They also reported increased leaf and bud development. However, the yield advantage narrowed later in the growth cycle, and the paper discusses tradeoffs involving certain crop-quality indicators, including soluble sugars and vitamin C.

The work is useful to growers evaluating light spectrum and scheduling, but its results apply to the specific experimental conditions and lettuce material tested. The outcome must not be presented as a universal increase delivered by a SANANBIO product, nor as evidence that every commercial system can reproduce the same result. The direct link to SANANBIO is the equipment provision documented in the paper’s methods, while the findings belong to the research authors.
