Canada Launches CAD 750 Million Controlled-Environment Agriculture Program
Canada announced a CAD 750 million funding program for controlled-environment agriculture, including technology upgrades and rural food-production projects.
According to Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada on October 30, 2026, the federal government launched the Controlled Environment Agriculture (CEA) Growth Pathway Program, providing CAD 750 million over seven years to strengthen year-round fruit and vegetable production. The program is part of Canada’s National Food Security Strategy.
The larger funding stream allocates CAD 650 million to adopting and modernizing CEA technologies, including automation, robotics, lighting and digital growing tools. A separate CAD 100 million stream targets locally driven food-production projects in rural and northern communities. The government states that eligible approved projects may receive between CAD 100,000 and CAD 10 million, depending on the program requirements.
Applications opened on October 30, 2026, with an announced deadline of December 23, 2026, subject to the program conditions. The announcement establishes a funding opportunity, not proof that individual farms have been financed or built. It is relevant to greenhouse operators, indoor farmers and agricultural engineering suppliers evaluating Canadian CEA investment.
