Japan’s MD-Farm Introduces a Robot-Moved Strawberry Shelf Concept
MD-Farm disclosed a Japanese patent application and video describing an indoor strawberry system with robots moving cultivation shelves.
On October 23, 2026, VerticalFarmDaily reported that Japanese indoor farming company MD-Farm had filed a patent application for a mobile cultivation-shelf system. In the proposed arrangement, autonomous guided vehicles carry strawberry-growing shelves through the facility, combining crop production with robotic transport.
The company also released a concept video on October 21 describing its vision for physical AI in indoor agriculture. It brings together controlled lighting, temperature, humidity and carbon dioxide with robotics, cultivation information and planning software. The broader ambition is to connect farm operations with logistics and distribution.
This announcement should be read as a technology development and patent-application milestone. A filing and demonstration video do not establish commercial deployment at scale, verified yields or independently demonstrated energy savings. Nevertheless, the concept is relevant to farm designers examining mobile racks, material handling and the integration of growing systems with warehouse-style automation.
