Oishii Opens a Tokyo Innovation Center for Indoor Strawberry Research
Oishii opened a research center in Hamura, Tokyo, to investigate cultivation, robotics and the future scale-up of indoor-grown crops.
VerticalFarmDaily reported on August 28, 2026 that Oishii had opened its Open Innovation Center in Hamura, Tokyo, on August 5. The facility is described as a research base for better farm systems, cultivation methods, crop flavor and quality, and the environmental performance of indoor farming.
The article connected the opening to Oishii’s international development and a first close of its Series C financing earlier in 2026. It also described collaboration with NTT around optical approaches to plant health and refrigeration-related research. These are research directions, not published proof that the proposed solutions have already been adopted at commercial scale.
The center adds a research chapter to Oishii’s existing US strawberry-farm story. For readers following high-value indoor fruit production, the important distinction is between an operating research facility, experimental work now under way and any future products that may result from that work.
