Regina Food Bank Opens a Growcer Modular Hydroponic Farm
A Saskatchewan food bank has opened a 40-foot hydroponic container farm to grow fresh greens through the winter.
VerticalFarmDaily reported on October 12, 2026 that Regina Food Bank had opened a modular hydroponic farm supplied by Canadian manufacturer Growcer. The 40-foot unit is designed to produce fresh leafy vegetables through cold Saskatchewan winters and operate within a small footprint.
The initiative was supported by Farm Credit Canada, with a reported CAD 250,000 contribution toward the growing system. The food bank described capacity of about 800 lettuce heads per week and an intention to expand the Farmplex concept with additional units in the future. The weekly figure is a stated capacity, not independently measured cumulative harvest.
This installation offers a practical example of container-based growing used for community food access rather than conventional retail sales. It also shows why buyers consider installation footprint, local climate, logistics and the operating organization’s ability to maintain the system alongside crop output.
