Swegreen Wins Seven-Year Extension for In-Store Farming in Sweden
Swedish retailer ICA Maxi Ängelholm extended its partnership with Swegreen after operating an in-store lettuce and herb growing facility.
VerticalFarmDaily reported on September 11, 2026 that ICA Maxi Ängelholm had signed a seven-year extension with Swegreen. The store’s in-house growing facility began operating in late 2024 and was described as having annual capacity above 160,000 plants.
Swegreen attributed the renewal to retail performance and customer demand. The article cited retailer-reported increases in lettuce and herb sales after installation. Those percentages describe results claimed for a particular shop and should not be projected onto other locations without local operating data.
This example places vertical farming directly at the point of sale rather than in a remote warehouse. The long contract extension is the new development; the initial system installation took place earlier. The case is relevant to food retailers comparing on-site freshness, customer experience, crop consistency and operating expense.
