University of Georgia Adds Customized Container Farms for Research

New container growing systems at the University of Georgia were customized for breeding and entomology trials, with separate irrigation circuits and flexible growing surfaces.

In an October 8, 2026 interview, VerticalFarmDaily described container farms supplied by AmplifiedAg to the University of Georgia’s Griffin Campus. The university added these controlled growing spaces to support plant breeding and entomology research alongside a new high-tech greenhouse.

The equipment was adapted for experimental access and separation of treatment groups rather than optimized simply for maximum commercial crop density. Distinct nutrient and irrigation circuits, insect screening, NFT channels, flood-and-drain trays and enhanced controls were among the design choices described by the supplier.

The project illustrates the difference between production farms and research infrastructure. A system suitable for rigorous trials must allow repeatable treatments, clean separation of variables and practical sampling. The report documents installed research facilities but does not claim any particular completed experiment or published research result.
