Vertical Farm Energy Study Models Savings from Joint Light and Climate Control
A 2026 research report describes simulated electricity-cost reductions when indoor-farm lighting and climate control are optimized together.
VerticalFarmDaily reported on October 21, 2026 on a study evaluating coordinated control of LED lighting, temperature, humidity, HVAC and dehumidification in a modeled lettuce vertical farm. The simulation covered several locations, seasons and operating conditions rather than a monitored commercial installation.
In the simulated cases, researchers reported an average reduction in electricity cost of 13.7% versus the modeled static baseline while respecting a target harvest schedule and plant weight. Savings were strongly linked to climate-system behavior, not simply to moving lights into cheaper tariff periods.
These are numerical simulation results, not measurements from a deployed SANANBIO system or any other named commercial farm. The study underscores why energy planning should evaluate the interaction between LED heat, humidity removal and cooling capacity.
